June Playlist

This month we're doing things a little different with the playlist posts so that I am not rambling on for half a century although I'd love to hear which kind you prefer - ramble or summary. I've been listening to a lot more pop music this month - it's nice to change things up - so here is what music I've been listening to during June !

I watched a lot of Netflix during June and I always end up adoring half the background music in TV shows and films which is where I found my latest favourite song Point of Disgust by the band Low and it is such a beautiful song, I couldn't get it out of my head yesterday plus I've learned how to play it on my little keyboard - double celebrations ! Another song I discovered was You Can't Say No Forever by the Swedish group Lacrosse and it's so sweet, the singing isn't amazing at times - a bit silly - which is probably why I love it so much.

I also fell in love with Years and Years this month ! King is a little overplayed on the radio but their songs Shine and Real but especially Take Shelter have been played on repeat on my phone. They're such boppy songs, a little different to what I'd usually listen to and now I really want to see them in the Olympia ! I've also been loving Alt J. I didn't think I'd ever love any of their songs as much as Breezeblocks but the voice and instruments in their songs gel so well together in all their other songs especially Something Good and Dissolve Me. All their songs have the same kind of pattern in a way and a month or so a video went viral of two eejits taking the p*ss out of their music, creating their own little parody whilst eating rice cakes - it's kind of the funniest thing ever so you can watch it here and never recover ever again. Worst thing is that I actually enjoyed it as a song.

This month the Foo Fighter's Greatest Hits CD has been played in the house, in the car and anywhere with a CD player really, to the point where we're in the car and my brother starts yelling Word Forward out the window but This Is A Call has been my favourite to listen to this month ! I've also been loving Fall Out Boy's music this month. All their music is extremely catchy but one song in particular that I haven't stopped listening to is Uma Thurman. Finally, since reading Jack Antonoff of Bleachers' interview with her in Teen Vogue, I've been listening to a lot of Charli XCX's music so I cannot get Famous out of my head - it is such a brilliant song and the music video is even greater !

So they are my favourite songs of June and I'd love to know what yours are,

SHEFFIELD PHOTO DIARY

Last Thursday the 18th, mam and I spent a day of what I dislike most - travelling - in order to reach the beautiful destination of Sheffield in England ! Our first stop was my uncle's neighbour's house where nanny was staying. The house was so pretty - moment of appreciation for the electric piano in the kitchen - and my uncle's neighbour is one of the friendliest people ever and practically Superwoman - Thank you for letting me use your Internet on Friday ! We then went out for dinner at this cute little Italian restaurant which I unfortunately have no photos of and here we had the tastiest garlic bread and pizza that I'd had out in a long time. Final stop for the night was different neighbours of my uncle who were kindly letting mam and I stay the night. By the end of the next morning, I love love loved Sheffield bar the shite weather and rude waitresses we'd encountered in a pub-restaurant. After a lot of waiting around, we eventually got out to the cottages near where the wedding was taking place and the wait was well worth it once the vegetable and duck spring rolls came out of the oven ! The cottage we stayed in could be described in the same way as Sheffield - quaint with lots of character - I took a good few photographs, including the cat tea cosy which gave us a little fright at first since it looked very like the strange cat moping around outside the cottages, who eventually became World's Most Hated Cat or maybe just Britain's.

Saturday brought the wedding of my uncle and his now-wife ! The reception was held at this barn that a crazy amount of work had been put in to - mostly by the bride and groom ! Between the decoration of bunting and shopping bags on the wedding car, the amazing food - again, done by the bride and groom and the whole scenery, it was a gorgeous day ! Brownie points go to the actual brownies which were all gone before you could blink and also my adorable little cousin shouting out during the speeches. Note that I pick up accents pretty easily and at this stage, I'm trying not to speak in an English accent and feel strange speaking in an Irish one, like I might as well be in an episode of Miranda.

The next day could only be described as something similar to the day after Christmas. It was spent between the two other cottages, where a ridiculous amount of 'Four in a Bed' and 'Come Dine With Me' was watched and there was enough food and drink left over from the wedding to feed a nation - let alone an army ! I was in a food dream because there seemed to be baguettes everywhere I looked and all I ate was crisps ! Later on, I met the nicest chocolate fudge cake that I have ever eaten and the night was ended with sparklers, just like the night before !

On Monday morning, we said our goodbyes and set off on another day of travel. This time it was all much more pleasant - even the plane - but all I have to say is Manchester Airport, you need to sort out your unreliable WiFi problems ! It was kind of a miracle for Internet connection to even be suggested there in the first place since apparently in England, WiFi on public transport or anything like that is unheard of, unlike Ireland ! I adored England, Sheffield is one of the most beautiful places I've been too and it was nice to get out of the country, although it was nice to return home to dad and Evan in Ireland the Nation of Free Public WiFi, along with the potentially funny accent which I lost by the end of the bus journey and a cut on my middle finger - all just like Galway in October !

On a final note, I've been trying to post this off my phone all week but it never worked !

Sea Breeze

Yesterday, my friends and I spent the afternoon at the seaside and the weather ended up being blooming roasting ! Considering we were by the sea - i.e sea breeze - the temperature soared causing my right hand and wrist to acquire sunburn, even with sun cream, which was not a plan and it didn't help that we spent most of the afternoon walking ridiculous lengths so when a car drove by and water guns were squirted at us from the backseat window, we did not complain and instead of running after the car swearing, my friend wanted to run after the car in hope that she would get squirted again !

Thanks to my naivety in the weather, I did not exactly dress for a 'heatwave' of a day, to the point where I would have been melting in my leather jacket bar the fact that my mam told me that it was going to be too warm ! And all of my more colourful clothing are packed away for the weekend so how did I spend a warm summers day ? Oh yes, of course. In all black, excluding the denim shorts, flower clip and freshly dyed - that morning, in fact - hair, the green eyeliner and maybe my bag and nails might count too. Like my last outfit post, I'm wearing this cardigan from Penneys again ! I had bought it originally for the wedding I'm going to but it doesn't really suit my outfit now so we'll have to see, although that does not mean that I haven't and won't get use out of it ! I don't have many insecurities with the way I look but what I do find uncomfortable is going out without hiding under some kind of jacket or cardigan so hot summer days really do not go in my favour *cue too many layers* but this cardigan is so perfect for that kind of weather ! I'm still hiding, but I'm not melting under heavy material and what not so this is a win win !

In other news, I now own a pair of Converse and

a. My feet have never felt so comfortable in my life
b. I feel like some kind of Tumblr girl or a 5SOS fangirl in them - that's not an insult
c. I really need to learn how to tie laces

Things Are Looking Up

First of all I'd like to acknowledge but not apologise for the fact that my last post may have came across as slightly negative in some sorts and this post could be perceived as similar but I like to see it as turning negatives into positives ! My weekend was quite difficult so 'keep calm and carry on' is quite a relevant quote right now and staring the outdoors is something that keeps me calm. I remember once when I was younger, being in quite a bad state and I sat on the floor of the same room that I am writing this post in right now and I'm pretty sure I just stared out the doors at the sky and nothing else for a good chunk of an hour and last year when studying for exams, I used to stare out my bedroom window at this tree with white flowers on it more than I stared at my books and then of course that tree was cut down but some of it is still left !

So yesterday evening when I went outside to feed the rabbits, I spent a good chunk of time standing on the back door step, staring at the sky so it got to the stage where my surroundings had entirely captivated me so I ran back inside to grab my phone and began taking photos of everything ! Considering that I only just bought a new memory card for my camera, I'm using my phone for taking photos quite a lot lately since I can upload them to Instagram quickly and when I'm out anywhere, I generally don't have my camera on me. I've been using the Instagram camera rather than the normal one on my phone for photos like this as I find the result is generally clearer, the colours are stronger and I can use the settings to slightly sharpen the photograph is needed. And I'm sure that I am not the only one who has observed that the sunsets, daisies and everything to do with the evenings in general outside are becoming prettier with every passing day !

10/10 recommend spending more time sitting on a back door step observing the outdoors - especially during the long evenings !
